BlackBerry News Weekly 41 – Marshmallow is here

Catching up on news over the past two weeks. Android Marshmallow has officially rolled out for the BlackBerry Priv. First starting with ShopBlackBerry bought Priv smartphones, and carrier bought Priv devices will start receiving the Marshmallow update from May 3. In the past week we also saw BBM Video arrive on Android and iOS. It came as a surprise but certainly nice to see. Initially, it’s only available to those in the US and Canada. Hopefully we’ll see a global roll out soon. Happy Listening!

BlackBerry News Weekly 40 – Let’s rehash old news

With news quiet on the BlackBerry front, someone wanted to rehash some old news and make it big news. We discuss the news about the Canadian Police obtaining BlackBerry’s global decryption keys in 2010, the rollout of Marshmallow beta for PRIV users, we look at the ‘Is BlackBerry 10 dead?’ question again, and much, much more. Happy listening.

I did run a contest this week to celebrate the 40th episode. For this one, only those who donated for the month were eligible. If you donated, give the show a listen and find out if you won.

John Chen was in the news a bit this week. For the most part, the last week had been quiet for BlackBerry. That was until the FY16 Year-End and Q4 earning’s call. It was much anticipated and lots of news and numbers came out of it. BlackBerry News Weekly 36 – OS 10.3.3 on the horizon?

BlackBerry 10 saw some love the past week with an “update” to the Facebook app and also the Twitter, plus there was also a beta update to BBM too. While the focus has been on the Priv lately it was kind of nice to see updates to these apps but better listen to the episode to find out the whole story. The episode also touches upon OS 10.3.3 possibly coming (very) soon. Happy listening! Read More

BlackBerry News Weekly 35 – Roll on the March updates

Third time is a charm…or maybe not. There were three attempts to record this episode this week, the reason why it is late. I ran into some sound issues, each time a different problem. I decided to settle on the original recording as it was the best quality. There is just a section about halfway through (26 mins) where there is some background noise but the audio is complete.

In this episode, we’re catching up on two weeks worth of news again. The episode covers WhatsApp dropping BlackBerry support, Priv security and app updates, the first listener question and all the latest press releases from BlackBerry.

BlackBerry News Weekly 34 – Time for a catch up

Catching up on two weeks worth of news again. Though there wasn’t too much news, there was enough to fill up an episode. There were some Press Releases from Mobile World Congress and QNX news from Embedded World. While BlackBerry were at MWC there were no device announcements this time around. Mainly more partnership announcements, which are always a good thing. Happy listening. Read More

BlackBerry News Weekly 33 – Third party apps to the rescue

It’s Valentine’s Day and what better day to bring you a new episode of the BlackBerry News Weekly podcast. It’s been two weeks since the last episode so there’s two weeks worth of news to catch up on, though new has been slow the past week. The biggest news was the layoffs at Waterloo and Sunrise, FL, which also saw Gary Klassen part of the layoffs, it seems. Gary is the creator of BBM and it was really sad for such prominent figure within BlackBerry to leave. Enjoy the show!
